Unraveling Fall Trends with Denim Culottes

August 25, 2016
Denim Culottes

Fall fashion is trending towards lots and lots of denim! I mean…naturally, right??? It just so happens that one of the many denim trends heading into fall comes in the form of culottes (i.e. gauchos, cropped wide-leg, etc.). This trend actually started making a splash back during the spring months. And, from the looks of it, culottes are making an even bigger splash for fall!

The majority of denim culottes will have an unraveled/released hem. Remember my post from a few weeks ago on “Released Hem Denim”? Yep,Β this small detail is wildly popular across the board when it comes to denim. The style or Β length is irrelevant. Unraveled hems are striking every denim style from shorts, skirts, cropped, flared, skinny, and in this case…culottes! I’m personally obsessed with the unraveled hem and hope it never goes away. It gives a vibe of being casual but fashionably cool πŸ˜‰

I’ll be honest, when the culotte/gaucho vibe began hitting the scene again about a year ago, I didn’t know if I’d be able to get on board. I had a really hard time distinguishing it from frumpy to cool. Not to mention the fact that I’m only 5’4 in height. I mean, how could this style possibly look good on someone my size?!?! The answer is pretty simple really…wear heels! This definitely isn’t a style I’d be caught wearing with flats. In my opinion, only women who are 5’5 or taller can pull off this look in flats. I will say this, as much as I’ve come to love this stylish trend, I have yet to meetΒ anyone of the male species who can get on board with this look. Honestly, I’ve never met a male who likes it or even understands it for that matter haha! Oh well, sorry dudes! Women typically dress for other women anyways!

The scarf belt is one of my favorite parts of this look. I don’t know about you, but belts are difficult for me. I rarely find a belt that I REALLY love. Either the fit is off, I don’t like the style or color, etc. So I usually skip a belt all together. However, belts can be such a great accessory for certain looks as they can help “breakup” an outfit. The outfit I’m wearing here just needed a little somethingΒ extra. And, because I’ve recently started tying onΒ scarves as belts, I found it to be the perfect addition to complete the look.

Like I’ve mentioned before in several of my posts, if crop tops aren’t your thing…don’t sweat it! I just personally have a love affair with crop tops. But that doesn’t mean that another top option wouldn’t pair well with this look. Basic tank tops and tees always work well with looks similar to this. Just don’t go too crazy with prints on the top. You want the focus to be on the denim culottes as they already make a pretty big statement πŸ˜‰

These denim platform sandals by Vince Camuto are always a favorite. They’re versatile, easy to wear, and comfy! If you decide to give the denim culotte trend a try, take a picture and send to me! I’d love to see how you’ve decided to style them!

I have wanted to try culottes but unfortunately I’m so short I’m scared I’d look part oompa loompa! They look so perfect on you- I’m envious.

I’m short also! Give them a try. I bet you’ll look great! Just remember to wear some type of heel or wedge. Let me know how it works out!
