Out of Africa – Safari Part 1

December 19, 2015

Before I begin, let me first say, this is absolutely my favorite post to date. This is my third visit to the African Bush/Game Reserve (aka “Safari”) and my heart continues to hold an intensely special place for it. One of my best friends told me a few years ago that her late father loved the wonderfully famous movie “Out of Africa.” Feeling ashamed that I hadn’t yet seen this classic, I quickly rented it and of course fell in love. There is a line in the movie when Meryl Streep says “I miss the colors of Africa.” This line spoke to me as I knew exactly what she meant. Each time I leave this beautiful country, my heart has a longing to come back. It’s amazing and uplifting to know a place like this still exits in the world. The African Bush is raw, beautiful, scary, and exciting. You truly come to terms with the fact that you are no longer in a territory that belongs to you, but to the wild animals that inhabit there. So with that being said, if visiting Africa isn’t yet on your “bucket list”… it should be!

I’m extremely lucky to visit Africa nearly each year as my boyfriend is South African and his family resides there. They continue to embrace me as part of their family with so much love and hospitality. I could never repay them for the extraordinary life experiences they have given me. To the O’Brien family with so much love and adoration, thank you always from the bottom of my heart.  xoxo, Lacey

P.S. my lovely readers, stay tuned for Part 2 of my “Out of Africa” Safari!
