The Cape Winelands region is the source of many legendary South African Cape wines and is made up of the charming towns of Franschhoek, Paarl, Robertson, Stellenbosch, Pneil, Wellington. This region is comparable to California’s Napa Valley…filled with stunning vineyards and delicious wines.
The vineyards in Stellenbosch (see previous post on Stellenbosch) continue to be my favorite. However, the below vineyards near Franschhoek and Paarl are definitely worth a visit if you find yourself wine tasting in the Western Cape.
Fairview Wine & Cheese was no less than wonderful. Upon arrival, you are greeted with an adorable goat family living in their very own castle on the property. Proceed along the walkway to a stunning ivy covered wine and cheese lodge complete with rustic decor and tasting stations. Be prepared to sample some of the most delicately delicious cheese I’ve ever experienced. I could have stayed all day just for the cheese (my stomach thanks me for not doing that!). The wine tasting stations are rustically decorated with antler chandeliers and wooded serving stations. The winery also offers restaurants on the property for full service meals. Plan to spend some time at this one as it’s such an incredible spot!
Oldenberg Vineyards is definitely worth visiting as it consists of one of the most picturesque vineyards I’ve ever seen. The winery lodge is styled in sophisticated and chic decor. If you are into fuller bodied wines in a high class winery, this is the place for you!
All in all, wine tasting is one of my favorite pass times. If you are a lover of wine and enjoy world class scenery, plan your next holiday as a wine tasting trip with your family or a group of friends. Whether it be Napa Valley, Cape Winelands, etc., I promise you won’t regret it.
Go make some memories!
